Last night, December 12th, Aidan Turner and girlfriend Sarah Greene hit the green carpet for the London premiere of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. Those in attendance included Cate Blanchett, Ian McKellen, Martin Freeman, Peter Jackson, Andy Serkis, Richard Armitage, Billy Boyd, Dominic Monaghan, Lorraine Ashbourne, James Nesbitt, Prince William, Gok Wan, Graham McTavish, Nick Cave, Ian Holm, Jimmy Carr, Sarah Wilson, Stephen Fry, Ade Adepitan, Antony Cotton, Dougie Poynter, Greg Rutherford, Harry Judd, Tom Fletcher, Bernard Hill, Dermot O’Leary, Jonathan Gill, and Sylvester McCoy — quite impressive!
On December 9th, Aidan Turner attended the Dublin premiere of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. He was joined by his girlfriend, actress Sarah Greene. Darren Kennedy – an Irish television personality – was also in attendance at the event. There doesn’t yet appear to be much footage from the premiere, but hopefully we can expect more soon. In the meantime, enjoy the images!
Earlier this evening, December 6th, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey held its first stateside premiere — in New York. At the Ziegfeld Theatre, numerous cast and crew from the impressively-sized ensemble showed up, including Aidan Turner. Others in attendance included Elijah Wood (Frodo), Ian McKellen (Gandalf), Liv Tyler (Arwen), Martin Freeman (Bilbo), Andy Serkis (Gollum), Richard Armitage (Thorin Oakenshield), Dean O’Gorman (Fili), Adam Brown (Ori), Lee Pace (Thranduil), Archie Panjabi, Terry O’Quinn, Patrick Stewart, and director Peter Jackson.
On November 28th, Aidan Turner attended the New Zealand – and World – premiere of his upcoming film, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. He traveled “the world’s longest red carpet” with co-star Dean O’Gorman at his side, answering questions and greeting fans along the way. A couple of interviews from the afternoon can be viewed below. Hopefully more pictures will show up, but you can view what’s available in the gallery now.
In New Zealand earlier today, November 28th, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey held a press conference for various cast and crew. Aidan Turner was at the event, along with Cate Blanchett and James Nesbitt (sitting at either side), Elijah Wood, Andy Serkis, Barry Humphries, and director Peter Jackson. A few images have been added to the gallery, but hopefully more will become available soon. I’ll also be on the lookout for some video coverage of the conference; if you run across any, please let me know!

I’ve added several previously missing images from The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey to the gallery. You can now find two behind the scenes photos (one was released today, so it’s new), a promotional shot featuring Aidan Turner alongside Dean O’Gorman and Richard Armitage, and two film stills with Aidan’s Kili in the background (but nonetheless might be of interest). Enjoy!

Click on the image above to watch a short video with Aidan Turner and Dean O’Gorman – Kili and Fili in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, respectively – as they fly on board Air New Zealand to Auckland. A lot of what they say in it is summed up in the accompanying article, which you can read an excerpt of below; however, I figure people would probably rather see Aidan. (There’s also a look at other who were on board the flight, including Peter Jackson, Martin Freeman, and Richard Armitage.)
Media who joined the stars as they boarded in Auckland had the chance for a last quiet chat before the premiere-madness went under way. “It’s all a bit crazy. This is a bit bit weird,” Aidan Turner, who plays Kili, said about staging a media call on a plane.
“My ears are popping and I keep looking out the window and realising we are on a plane,” said New Zealand actor Dean O’Gorman, who stars as Fili, Turner’s brother.
The flight’s special guests were joined by cabin crew decked out in Hobbit habits: leather arm-pieces for the men and silver crowns for the women. And if they got bored, they could always watch Lord of the Rings on the in-flight entertainment.
But the cast had bigger things on their minds, as they contemplated watching the film they spent a year and a half filming for the very first time. “We get a cast viewing today in case we hate it,” said Turner. “Then it would be jumping on a plane back to Dublin quickly.”
You can watch another video here, in which Aidan expresses enthusiasm over reuniting with his Hobbit co-stars during the upcoming premiere. He and Dean show up at the 1:23 mark.
Aidan Turner is on his way to the world premiere of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey! Air New Zealand’s Hobbit 777-300ER plane picked him up from London’s Heathrow Airport yesterday, November 25th, to whisk him away to Auckland. He was joined by Graham McTavish (Dwalin) and Royd Tolkien, great-grandson of JRR Tolkien. There will be a few live streams of the Hobbit premiere, if you’re interested in tuning in.
